Temporary Respite Caregiver Support

Caring for a loved one can often require a helping hand. Short-term financial assistance is now available to help relieve the caregiver burden.

Together with the San Francisco Department of Disability and Aging, IOA is offering temporary grants for our in-home care services, Adult Day Programs and daily attendance at The Enrichment Center at the Presidio.

Call 415.750.4111 and reference โ€œRespite Grantโ€ to learn more, or complete the Intake Form to the right.

Anxiety is a common symptom of dementia, and knowing how to respond can make a big difference. Alexandra Kaplan, IOAโ€™s Lead Caregiver Coach, shares three key strategies to help:

1. Reassure โ€“ Offer comfort and a sense of safety.
2. Validate โ€“ Acknowledge their feelings, even if the anxiety isnโ€™t based on reality.
3. Redirect โ€“ Gently shift their focus to something calming and positive.
