Navigating Dementia: How Institute on Aging’s Companioa Program Provides Tailored Care and Support for Families

IOA’s Companioa program offers compassionate support and tailored care, helping families navigate dementia with confidence and ease.

There’s nothing easy about a loved one dealing with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

Yet seven million Americans must do so each day, and it’s an issue best met with experienced hands who know the struggles and needs of aging adults and their caregivers. Institute on Aging (IOA) provides expertise and empathetic guidance to build confidence in choosing the best path forward for your family.

Families of adults living with dementia often spend years ‘figuring it out,’ losing precious time with their loved ones. IOA created Companioa to be your expert companion on the dementia journey, walking side-by-side with you every step of the way to save time, reduce frustration, and help you navigate the road ahead knowing that you are doing everything possible.

Enter Companioa – Compassionate, Effective Care

Dementia affects every person at a different rate, often taking years for the full impact to become evident.

There is no single best treatment solution to this disease, as each individual and their family will have unique needs, medical backgrounds, and personal desires that will determine the ideal treatment route forward.

We understand this nuance at Institute on Aging, which is why we don’t offer blanket solutions. We emphasize educating our clients themselves before committing to any path to ensure the best possible fit, and we offer several options to suit a wide variety of needs.

Companioa Care Options

Deciding what route to take with dementia treatment can have a significant impact on an individual’s quality of life. Quite often, the most effective solution is a custom one that only becomes clear after connecting with our staff, speaking about your situation, and developing a plan that fits your loved one’s personality, interests, and abilities.

Our Companioa program includes the following services:

Concierge Client Care

Home Care

  • A caregiver with specialized dementia training provides empathetic care at home through flexible scheduling, client service, thus creating a nurturing environment that suits an individual’s unique needs.

Regardless of your service or services, rest assured each is staffed by experienced, reliable individuals who understand and empathize with the situation and will provide the highest level of care.

Additional Tools for Further Care

As a non-profit, IOA prioritizes people first, and advocates for our clients against both the challenges of disease and the legal system (legal confusing). In California, a dementia diagnosis can limit an individual’s care options, but our experts can help you navigate the system with just a simple phone call.

Identifying the early symptoms of dementia allows the proper support and treatment options to be enacted sooner for improved outcomes. We offer free cognitive tests so that concerned loved ones learn the basic signs of dementia.

Dealing with dementia is one of the most difficult tasks in life for an individual or family to undertake. A diagnosis can feel daunting, but it’s important to remember that the journey does not need to be done alone.

IOA’s Companioa offers ways to postpone the need for a residential care setting by keeping older adults engaged and active.  Companioa is your expert companion on the dementia journey, helping you and your family navigate the road ahead knowing that you are doing everything possible.
