What Can You Expect from AiA 2018?

As the leading multidisciplinary event, more than 3,000 attendees from around the country and abroad will come together for the Aging in America Conference in San Francisco. Conference attendees will be able to choose from more than 400 sessions focused on topics critical to aging and quality of life for older adults. Topics will include:

  • Aging in community
  • Caregiving
  • Health and wellness
  • Alzheimerโ€™s
  • Business
  • Lifelong learning
  • Engagement
  • Mental health
  • Policy and advocacy
  • Technology
  • Religion
  • Spirituality and meaning
  • Care transitions
  • And much more

This year, the conference will highlight technology and its innovative capacity to support and improve quality of life for aging adults. The American Society on Aging (ASA) and all of its partners in AiA are committed to turning intention into action with innovative policy proposals, business models and programs, and widespread education throughout aging-related fields.
In other words, along with the problems and questions, weโ€™re going to focus on the opportunities and answers. Itโ€™s a common mistake to think of aging as a problem, but this transition is truly a collection of opportunities. And it is a universal experience for all of us. So, people from diverse professions in support of positive momentum into later life are getting together to reimagine our collective future. Together, we will:

  • Strengthen and expand our networking possibilities.
  • Share successes that could be replicated.
  • Create bridges between community-based initiatives and institutionalized healthcare.
  • Be a part of this critical movement toward a solid foundation for thriving in later life.

The following presenters from Institute on Aging will illuminate AiA 2018 conference attendees with a local perspective on Thursday, March 29th:

  • Patrick Arbore, Ed.D., Founder and Director of the Center for Elderly Suicide Prevention & Grief Related Services, will present โ€œBullying Elimination Training Program for Staff and Older Adults.โ€ Valorie Villela, Director of 30th Street Senior Center/PACEโ€”also a local organizationโ€”will present with Dr. Arbore.
  • Dustin Harper, MBA, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, will present โ€œDeveloping a Market for Home and Community-Based Services for the Working Poor.โ€
  • Shawna Reeves, MSW, Director of Elder Abuse Prevention Program, and Tamari Hedani, MPH, Associate Director, Elder Abuse Prevention Program, will address โ€œFighting Pension Poaching Scams Against Elder Veterans in San Francisco.โ€
